Welcoming Red Dogs
The Eastern Shoshone Buffalo Herd welcomed 24 new red dogs this week!
Between both Wind River Indian Reservation herds – the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho herds – there are more than 300 total Buffalo on the landscape. Buffalo usually have their babies all at the same time as a defense mechanism against predators, so we are excited to welcome so many family members at once. This year we are expecting 45 new babies in the Eastern Shoshone Herd. So far, the Northern Arapaho Herd has had two babies this season.
Baby buffalo season is a special time of year. The spring time is all about renewal and motherhood, and these babies will continue a legacy of rematiriation on the Wind River Indian Reservation for decades to come.
